Garbage morning stream of consciousness thoughts on Hayley and Elijah:

[ eta: and now I feel like the best tl;dr version of all my feelings wrt Hayley/Elijah is that Elijah has never had someone who put him first and foremost in his life. Neither had Hayley until she met Elijah. But she can’t do the same for him. She’s a mother and a (future, I’m sure) werewolf matriarch. ]

It’s all sorts of baffling how fiercely I’m into the idea of Hayley and Elijah UST and eventual boning considering how I can’t run a single “realistic” scenario where these two actually work together in a semi-happy, semi-fulfilling way

I have a MUCH easier time coming up with happily ever after scenarios for Klaus and Hayley, especially now that Ansel’s in the picture. And were it not for the fact that I don’t see a single textual indication that these two are into each other in anything remotely resembling a romantic way, I’d probably be fond of the idea, if not actively ship it. (They’re too alike to ping my asdfghjkl I FUCKING SHIP IT button.)

Anyway, I do feel I’m approaching a crossroads of sorts wrt how I feel about Hayley/Elijah. Much is made of how Elijah “doesn’t get” her (partly true), but there’s also the issue of Hayley not getting HIM. Or rather, she gets parts of him, but she doesn’t seem to be emotionally equipped to give him what he needs.

Elijah has been riding on his noble knight who protects his family and damsels in distress complex for so long (he obviously gets off on it), that I don’t think he remembers what it’s like to be cared for consistently and genuinely. Whenever he gets some of that, it’s from Rebekah.

Hayley isn’t exactly the caring type. She’s not quite as stunted in this department as Klaus, but if I’d give Klaus a D, I’d give Hayley a C+. (being kind here).

And I feel like Elijah, fond as he is of emotionally stunted hybrids (who do need him and do love him in their own messy way), would probably be happier long term with someone with a B+/A average . Someone who loves a little more easily.

Idk.

I D K. Let’s see how Hayley deals with the idea that despite previous indications to the contrary, Elijah might not always be around. It’s already inspiring brotherly feelings on Klaus.
