i don't remember the first time i learned about totipotency. i was either 15 or 16. tentatively leaning toward 16.

it made me so depressed.

we went through the differentiation/"specialization" process using the hematopoietic stem cell model - it's prob like that everywhere, it's a really didactic example. anyway, so going with the steps of that, you get to see a bonafide god of a cell, a fucking beauty, not so slowly descending into fragments. literally. that is a platelet. it's not even a real cell anymore (it's really not, abul k. abbas, idgaf what u say), it's the rests of a cell.

i mean. platelets are the favorite cells of 9 out of 10 hemophiliacs and i'm wild about their work myself? let me take this moment to send a thanks note to the universe that mine are produced in sufficient quantity and work properly.

still, tho. the loss of potential is a sad. the necessity of the process doesn't make it less sad.
