.... that i wish was used more, in a very specific way.

so, CLONES.

there's this fan-favorite episode of stargate sg-1 called "fragile balance". from wiki: O'Neill wakes up one morning to find himself 30 years younger, much to the annoyance of the Colonel. It is soon learned that the same process that caused him to become younger is also causing him to die.

plot twist: that's not de-aged jack o'neil, that's a clone.

how does it end: Thor agrees to try and correct the flaw in young Jack's DNA, and the procedure is a success. Young Jack decides to live his life over again, and returns to high school. He and the Colonel agree not to stay in touch -- it would be too weird.

this is a lighthearted, somewhat comedic episode, btw.

WHY IS IT SO APPEALING TO ME:

1. it's like time traveling do-over, BUT BETTER. more surprises, no altering timeline eggshell-stepping.
2. fixes my problem with most AUs, which is basically, THESE ARE NOT RLY THE SAME CHARACTERS I LOVE. but clones with the exact same memory are. it's also more fun than de-aging because it doesn't really mess with the actual canon characters/no need to turn back to actual status quo.
3. it's super fun pondering stuff like how a 15-yo-looking-but-in-actuality-almost-50 divorced genius airforce colonel whose infant son accidentally shot himself with his own pistol would deal with high-school in the 2000s.
4. sex. having sex with actual 16 yo girls would be inappropriate and i like to think about the awkwardness of fending off advances while being horny all the time.
5. HAPPINESS. i like a lot of tragic characters whose in-canon chances of happiness are often pretty bleak. LIVING VICARIOUSLY THROUGH CLONES IS THE ANSWER.

... why did i make a post about this? i. d. k.
